Monza vs Napoli

Match Preview

Monza looked quite competitive in the previous Serie A round when they visited Torino, but they ultimately fell short in a 3-2 away defeat.

They managed to draw level early in the second half but failed to match Torino’s intensity when it mattered most. Monza scored their second goal deep into stoppage time. However, they have won two consecutive matches in front of their own fans and will surely be looking for another positive result here.

Defender Ziolkowski and midfielder Pessina are out, while defender Maye (3/0) remains doubtful.

Napoli, on the other hand, come into this match after a 3-3 home draw against AS Roma last Saturday afternoon. They came close to securing all three points at several stages of the game.

Napoli looked better in transition and initially built a two-goal lead. They even regained the advantage in the 83rd minute, only to concede again several minutes later. They paid the price for adopting a defensive approach while leading on the scoreboard.

Defenders Spinazzola (7/0), Badiashile (4/0) and Buongiorno are out, along with midfielder Favasuli (2/0) and forwards Neres (4/0) and Alisson Santos (4/0). Defender Rrahmani (7/0) is doubtful.

Napoli are far from reliable defensively, and I expect them to struggle at the back again. Fortunately for them, they may have enough attacking quality to outscore their opponents. However, Monza should not go down without a proper fight this time. Goals look extremely likely.

Benevento vs Catanzaro

Match Preview

Benevento were slight favourites away from home against Arezzo last weekend and fully justified that status, gradually increasing the intensity to secure a convincing 3-0 victory.

They grew stronger as the game progressed, taking the lead early in the second half before switching back to counterattacks. Benevento looked more stable, experienced and, above all, more clinical in attack. Goalkeeper Sylla, midfielder Talia (1/0) and forward Schimmenti (2/0) are unavailable for the hosts.

Catanzaro took an early lead at home against Ascoli, only to suffer one of the most humiliating defeats in their recent history. They lost 1-6 in front of their own fans last Saturday afternoon.

They were completely outplayed from the first minute to the last, allowing Ascoli to create an enormous number of clear chances. The visitors will be without midfielders Pogacar and Giovane (4/0), as well as forwards Loubao and Pecorino (6/1).

Benevento have looked strong and in good form recently, so it is difficult to look past them in this match. Catanzaro have shown very little so far this season, especially away from home. After their latest collapse, an immediate improvement looks unlikely.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur

Match Preview

This is one of those London derbies where the form book can be forgotten. Chelsea sit fourth after back-to-back league wins, while Spurs are 16th and only recently claimed their first victory of the season against Coventry. Tottenham have lost six consecutive Premier League London derbies, while Chelsea have won the last six league meetings between these sides. I expect nerves, hard tackles and arguments from the first whistle.

The card statistics are the main focus. The last five H2H meetings produced 7, 6, 10, 5 and 1 cards, averaging 5.8 per game. The three most recent meetings all went over this line. Chelsea average 1.9 yellow cards in the league, while their last ten matches have averaged 4.6 total cards. Spurs average 1.3 league yellows, but that figure rises to 2.8 across their last ten away games. Referee Chris Kavanagh has shown 4, 6, 4, 6 and 5 yellow cards in his five league matches this season, averaging exactly 5.0 per game. His figures across the last two seasons stand at 4.26 yellows and 23.03 fouls per match.

Chelsea are without goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (6/0), midfielder Reece James (4/0) and winger Jamie Gittens (0/0). Defender Pep Chavarria (6/0) and striker Emanuel Emegha (0/0) are doubtful. Spurs will miss midfielder Lucas Bergvall (4/0), wingers Savio (4/0) and Wilson Odobert (0/0), attacking midfielder Xavi Simons (0/0) and forward Mykhaylo Mudryk (1/0). Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur (6/0) is also suspended.

This derby has plenty of bad blood, the recent H2H meetings have produced plenty of cards, and Kavanagh has the numbers to support the trend.

Como vs Manchester United

Match Preview

Como took the lead and looked competitive in a 3-2 defeat away to Feyenoord last Wednesday evening, but they struggled to respond to an attacking side like the Dutch team on that occasion.

A decent bounce-back followed on Sunday afternoon, when they picked up all three points with a 3-1 victory away to a solid Fiorentina side in an even more open game than the final score suggests.

Defender Chalobah (6/0) and forward Kean (3/0) are doubtful. Unavailable are defender Kambwala (1/0), midfielder Caqueret (6/0), and forwards Addai (1/0) and Diao (6/2).

Manchester United were below the required level in a 2-0 defeat away to Atletico Madrid in their last Champions League outing.

They conceded in the very first minute and had some decent attacking spells, but lacked real effectiveness and remained more vulnerable defensively than they should have been. They were also rather passive in a 1-1 draw away to Leeds last Sunday afternoon, meaning they have now gone six matches without a victory in all competitions.

Defender Yoro (4/0) is suspended, while defender Dorgu (5/0), midfielder Ugarte and forward Sesko (4/1) will also be unavailable. Defenders Martinez (6/0), Shaw (5/0) and Heaven (2/0), as well as midfielder Mainoo (6/0), are currently doubtful.

Como have looked far better in recent weeks and, perhaps more importantly, are creating chances more easily. The English side should not be completely written off, but looking at these two teams, it is difficult to see Manchester United coming away with anything against a side that has enjoyed a much better atmosphere, stronger team cohesion and greater confidence lately.
